Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2021 GMC Yukon comes in four available trims: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali. The AT4 is a brand-new trim that focuses on off-roading. All trims are also available with a long-wheelbase style known as the XL. Its revamped exterior now has a massive grille as well as LED daytime running lights and headlights. Stepping behind the vehicle, you'll notice a separate flip-up glass panel that gives you easier access. Wheel sizes range from 18 to 22 inches.
Engine (Power)
The 2021 Yukon has a pair of familiar engine options along with a new one that you might find appealing. The standard 5.3-liter V-8 engine produces 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, while the Denali trim has a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that amasses 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The new option is a 3.0-liter turbodiesel, which is the same engine you'll find on the GMC Sierra pickup truck. This one pumps out 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Regardless of the engine, all Yukons use a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
For gas mileage, the base engine gets an estimated 16 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. The 2021 Yukon offers both rear- and all-wheel drive. The 6.2-liter engine gets 15 mpg and 20 mpg with rear-wheel drive and 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway with all-wheel drive. The turbodiesel gets the best numbers with 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway with rear-wheel drive, and 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway with all-wheel drive.
Interior
The 2021 GMC Yukon seats eight people with its standard configuration or seven with the optional second-row bucket seats. One advantage of the redesign is the additional third-row legroom, which comes in handy since not all vehicles in this class are spacious enough for adults to ride in that row. As one of the best cargo haulers in the market, the Yukon has 25.5 cubic feet of space behind the third-row seats. Folding down the second- and third-row seats expands the space to 72.6 cubic feet and 122.9 cubic feet respectively. Opting for the Yukon XL gives you even more space with 41.5 cubic feet behind the third row, 93.8 cubic feet once you fold down the third row, and 144.7 cubic feet behind the second and third rows.
Safety Features
The 2021 Yukon comes standard with numerous safety features, some of which include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, a rear-seat reminder, and the GMC Teen Driver system that lets you set audio and speed limits for secondary drivers. Other features you can add include adaptive cruise control, a surround-view parking camera system, and blind-spot monitoring.
